I have the honor to acknowledge Your Lordship's Despatch No. 142 of 14th September last, with an Enclosure from the Secretary to the Lords Commissioners of Her Majesty's Treasury, accompanied by a letter from the Commissioners of Audit, relative to a surplus of £. 32 -8-2, which had gradually accumulated in the Colonial Treasure Chest, and was only brought to the credit side of the Treasurer's account at the close of the year 1848.
This surplus began to accumulate during the time of Sir John Davis, and as
